Jane Jacobs Legacy in Action

Legendary urban planner Jane Jacobs passed away earlier this week. She's most noted for her book Death and Life of Great American Cities (NA 9108 .J3, on the 5th floor of Gelman) and for her activisim during Robert Moses' reign on New York City.

USAPATRIOT Act: Re-uppage

1/3/06: H.R. 3199 was issued to extend the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. The short title, of course: the USAPATRIOT Act.

Border Patrol

Both the House and the Senate are offering up their take on the Immigration situation...

The House has given us H.R. 4437: Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005.

The Senate's version, courtesy of Senator Bill Frist is S. 2454: To Ammend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide for comprehensive reform and for other purposes, also known by it's shorter title, Securing America's Borders Act.

Hurricane Katrina: Lessons Learned (the White House take)

The White House released it's own report on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Titled The Federal Response to Hurricane Katrina: Lessons Learned, it's available through the White House website, as an electronic document or a downloadable PDF.

Hurricane Katrina: A Failure of Initiative

Released on February 15, 2006, the House's report, titled A Failure of Initiative detailed the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina.
